A1: A person trained in A1 level of German language can understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences. Basic interactions such as self-introduction, asking others about the same and questions as to ‘where you live’, ‘whom do you know’ etc. can be communicated and responded to with this level of language.
A2: A person trained in A2 level of German language can understand sentences and commonly used expressions associated with the topics directly related to his/her direct circumstances e.g. personal information or information about his/her family and immediate surroundings. Here, a person can make him/herself understand in simple and routine situations dealing with a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and common topics.
B1: A person trained in B1 level of German language can understand the main points when a clear, standard language is used and the focus is on familiar topics associated with work, school and leisure time etc. Here, a person can deal with most situations typically encountered when travelling in the language region. A person trained for B2 can communicate so spontaneously and fluently that a normal conversation with native speakers is easily possible without a great deal of effort on either side. The speaker can express him/herself clearly on a wide range of topics in a clear and detailed manner, explain his/her position on a current issue and indicate the benefits and drawbacks of various options.
C2: A person trained in C1 level of German language can effortlessly understand practically everything which he/she reads or hears. The person can summarise information from various written and spoken sources, logically recounting the reasons and explanations.
